Week 4 of 52 – Soul Searching

Well, now, let’s see.  What’s been goin’ on?  For one thing, I’m a slacker.  I know this.  I was supposed to post on Sunday, and here it is Tuesday.  Sorry ’bout that.  I’ve been doing a little soul searching.  That’s the first thing on my list.

Trying to figure out lots of things.  What do I want to do with my blog?  Where do I want to take it?  What do I want to do with me?  Who am I?  What do I want?  How can I make a difference?  How can I serve others?  What is something small that I can do to change the world?  I do believe that every person can make a difference.  And I do believe each one of us was placed on this earth to make a difference, to have an impact on the world.  We all have a purpose, a gift, a talent.  Some of us have more than one.  Some of us have no idea what our gifts or talents are.  Some of us are working in our purpose and not even knowing it.  So, this is one thing I’ve been up to.  Soul searching.  Checking out Marianne Williamson’s website and blog.  Checking out Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday.  Checking out Joel Osteen.  thedailylove.com/.  www.marieforleo.com/.  gabbyb.tv/

And I’m checking out A Course in Miracles at http://acim.org/index.html  Today was my first lesson.  Kind o’ wierd, I’ll say, but I’m tryin’ it out anyway.  Just trying to make some shifts in my life, my spiritual life, and find deeper meaning to it all.  I want to get Marianne Williamson’s book ‘A Return to Love’, and see how I react to that.  I’m looking to make many positive changes in my life and my family will benefit from this, as I will.

I did ok last week.  I mean, I went two whole days without cussing!  I cannot believe it!  I’m surprised I made it one day, but two?  There’s hope for me yet.  I know, I’ll get thru a whole week, one of these days.  That’s the goal anyway.  If that gosh-darned, dead-blasted road rage would just stay under control.  😉  But anyway, kudos to me for two days.

One of my goals is to eat at 10 new restaurants in 1001 days, but I’ve changed it to 10 new ones each year.  Now, Cock of the Walk is not new to me or Mama, but it was new to Hallie.  Her reaction when we drove up to the restaurant was like, “This is where we’re eating?!”  Funny, because all I could remember about the restaurant that I liked was the pickled onions, so I wasn’t really looking that forward to it, either.  Mama really wanted Hallie to experience it.

We sit down to the table, and the only main dishes on the menu are (a) fish, and (b) chicken.  You could nearly see the steam coming out of Hallie’s ears.  She wanted to leave immediately.  “This is it?  This is the menu?  This is all they have?  Seriously!”  Oh, bless her.  Each entree comes with hush puppies, french fries, pickled onions and mexican cornbread, with which they flip in the air out of a cast iron skillet.  Then, you can add turnip greens and french fried dill pickles, and I think there’s something else you can add, but we were cool with just those add ons.

I’ll just let you imagine her disgust once the waitress sat down our tin pie plates and tin cups of lemonade.  One sip of that lemonade, though, and she was pretty much sold.  She would not try the pickled onions, as she’s not a fan of onions to begin with, nor any kind of cornbread, except sweet cornbread muffins.  They brought the ginormous platter of chicken and fries and her eyes were popping out.  One bite of the chicken, and she was a fan.

We all left full as a tick, and had left overs for days.  Afterwards, we walked outside along the water, watched a gentleman fish, and we said our hellos to all the hungry seagulls, praying for some promise of a measly piece of morsel.

I think next week, we’ll try another place, that’s new to all of us.

Still training for the 5K, although I hit a speed bump and I’m slackin’ on that, as well.  Went four days last week of no training and now I’m suffering.  Yesterday, was simply exhausted from fighting off some head cold or some sort of pressure in my noggin – no doubt related to our CRAZY weather.  And yeah, you guessed it, another day skipped.

Anywho, just stoppin’ by for an update and let ya know what’s been goin’ on in my strange world.  Oh, been writing, of course.  Gotten a good bit of inspiration from J. R. R. Tolkien, as usual, and some very enlightening and colorful dreams!  Thank you, God, and subconscious mind!!

About to go update my 101 Things list, since I’m doing good on some things, not so hot on others.

Oh, and I also cooked some new stuff on Sunday.  I made this chicken and black bean stuff in the slow cooker and it was awesome!  Made some sweet potato casserole with fresh sweet potatoes, and I should have baked the taters another hour before using them, as parts were nice and mashy, and other parts were chunky.  Still tasted good, though.  And I didn’t manage to do the streusel topping, as I was out of pecans, so I did the marshmallows instead. Yummo!  I love it when they are cooked to where they are crunchy on the outside and goo-alicious on the inside.  Oh, baby!  Also made some cheezy mexican cornbread.  Mama and I loved that, but again, Hallie is not a cornbread fan.  Oh, and I had to season my new cast iron skillets beforehand.  That was fun.  Not.  But, the cornbread cooked lovely and came out of the skillet so easily.  I’m in love!  I think I’ll add some more cheese to that recipe, though.  You can never have too much cheese, right?  Right!  Oh, and cherry cheesecake for dessert, which is always a big hit, and not something new.  All the other stuff was.  If you are hankerin’ for some recipes, just holla, and I’ll post ’em.

So, tell me…what’s been going on in your world?  Trying anything new?  Doing any soul searching?  What’s goin’ on with ya?

I hope y’all are having a totally terrifical Tuesday, and many positives are happening in your life today, and on the horizon tomorrow.  Always try to focus on the positive.  I do believe in what we send out comes back to us.  Make sure you send out positive energy, not just for others, but to surround yourself with love, as well.  You deserve good things.  You deserve greatness!  And you can do anything you want to, as long as you have the desire and you don’t let fear stand in your way.  I’m talking to me, too.  It’s ok to feel fear.  Just don’t let it stop you.

If you could do anything and you didn’t worry about what others thought about you, and you didn’t let fear or financial hardship get in your way, what would you do?  What would you try?  Please share.

Love you!  Make it an awesome week!  *big squishy hug*

Story Challenge: B! = Buffet’s Margaritaville

One of the places we visited for lunch on our vacation.

We weren’t actually that impressed with the place.  The food was terribly overpriced and wasn’t very good.  It wasn’t horrible.  It just wasn’t worth the price.  Plus, it was incredibly crowded.  The waitresses kept running into Hallie’s chair, so she moved to another chair.  Pretty cute from the outside, though.  Plus, they had a cute shop to buy souveniers while you wait to be seated, which they said would be about 45 minutes.  It was closer to maybe 20 or 30, I think.  I bought a postcard.  😉  Spent more at Ron Jon’s Surf Shop.

Y’all have an amazing Saturday, k?  It’s very dark and stormy looking here at 9:30 a.m.  We must be crazy venturing out in a potential incoming storm.  I’m sure we’ll have a good time, anyway.  Gonna go get some bbq for lunch, check out an art gallery, a vintage shop, get groceries, and just look around and see what other trouble we can get into.  😉  Mostly looking today.  Not buying.

Love y’all!  *squishy hug*

Panama City Beach, Florida (July 2012)

Story Challenge: Letter “A”

All Aboard!!!

Many of you know that my family and I went on vacation to Panama City Beach last week. On Sunday, we took a cruise on Capt. Anderson III, one in the morning and another that evening. This was just part of the colorful, entertaining scenery. Pigs were flying, seagulls were posing (which I’ll show another day), dolphins were playing and we were enjoying the view. Won’t you enjoy it with us?  Wait a minute…  Pigs were flying?

Well, perhaps pigs weren’t actually flying…(thought the boat name was cute)

Folks were fishing…

Bikers were biking…

Seagulls were skimming…

Boats were boating, as we were, and seagulls were begging for cheetos…

Next time, I want to try this…

Sailboats were sailing…

And more to follow on another story…
