Turning Staffs to Snakes and the Nile to Blood

Exodus 7

God told Moses that he made him like God to Pharoah and Aaron will be his prophet.  Moses (“M”) was to say everything God commanded him and then Aaron (“A”) would tell Pharoah (“P”) to let the Israelites go, and even though many miraculous signs will be provided, P won’t listen.  God (“G”) would stretch out his hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.  M and A did as G commanded.  M was 80 and A was 83 when they spoke to P.

God said, “When P tells you to perform a miracle, M is to tell A, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before P,’ and it’ll become a snake.”  They did as G said to do.  Then P called his wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things in their secret arts.  They each threw down his staff and it became a snake.  (Om, witchcraft/sorcery was alive and well in those days just as it is today, whether you choose to believe it or not.  The super cool thing here is:)  A’s staff swallowed up their staffs.  (Because the works of God can outdo anything the devil/witch/sorcerer can dish out.)  But P’s heart became hard and he wouldn’t listen, just as God had said.

G told M, “Go to P in the morning as he goes out to the water, wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him and take your staff in hand that changed into a snake.  Tell him, ‘God has sent me to tell you:  Let my people go so they may worship me in the desert.  Till you, you’ve not listened.  By this, you’ll know I’m the Lord.  With this staff, I will strike the water and it’ll be changed to blood, the fish will die and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’ ”

The Lord further told M, “Tell A, ‘With your staff, stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt–over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs’–and they will turn to blood.  Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars.’ ”  M and A did as God commanded and all those events transpired.

The Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts and P’s heart became hard; he wouldn’t listen to M and A, as G said.  P just turned and went into his palace without a care.  All the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they couldn’t drink the water of the river.    P just turned and went into his palace without a care.  And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they couldn’t drink the water of the river.

Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.
