Jacob had 70 descendants. Joseph, his brothers and all that generation died but the Israelites multiplied greatly so the land was filled with them. Then a new kid, who didn’t know about Joseph, came into power in Egypt. He told his people there are too many Israelites and they must be dealt with shrewdly or they will become more numerous and if war is to break out, they will join the enemy and fight against us. So they oppressed them with forced labor but the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread, so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly.
The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, “When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth, if it’s a boy, kill him but if it’s a girl, do not.” But the midwives feared God and did not do what the king ordered; they let the boys live. Then the king summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?” The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.” So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”
What kind of king is this dude?! Thank God for those God-fearing Egyptian midwives, right? Love those chicks! What kind of person would order to kill innocent children? I’m sure there is a special place in hell for people like this. Nobody messes with kids, man! I won’t say what I would have done to that king had he ordered me to commit such a heinous act. Any thoughts on this chapter? I know I’m going a bit slow and not doing 3 chapters a day as you are supposed to when you read the Bible in 365 days, but I only have so much time per day, plus I want to take my time going through each chapter and really understand and think about it, rather than rush through. So, if you were ordered by a king to do such a thing as this, what would you have done? Would you kill the king? Would you flee to another land? Any thoughts?
Have a groovilicious evening. And if there are any prayer requests out there, please send them my way and I’ll be happy to add them to our prayer request list. You can comment me with it or if you’d rather not say what the prayer request is, just comment “silent prayer request.”
Please pray for my sweet Mama as she’s having more shots in her neck/back tomorrow (this is her third round) to help alleviate pain and suffering and improve mobility and range of motion and relieve stiffness. She’s such a sweet and wonderful girl and to see her in so much pain breaks my heart.
And please pray for Hallie, my daughter, as she’s having surgery on her left knee July 17. She had surgery on her right knee Dec 26. She is fearful and stressed about it, understandably, and it’s totally ruining all the plans she had for soccer. She’s also dreading PT 3 times per week for several weeks and starting her freshman year on crutches.
Love y’all! ‘nite! *smooch*
